What a weekend! Not one to stay in
Hello my social butterflies!
Just a reminder of some of the fun happening this weekend. Cities pages bi-annual wine tasting is Friday, 80+ wines. If you are looking to venture into wines or feel stuck in a rut with that Merlot or Cab - check it out. Word to the wise, the "food" provided is never enough, results in a long line. Eat before you walk in the door and/or pack an energy bar with you - you'll enjoy many more wines this way.
Also, it's another Midnight Movie Society movie at Brits.
Saturday if you aren't rolling at the Metrodome Inline Marathon, consider heading over to the new Twins stadium where the U of M baseball team is playing an exhibition game for a $2 entry fee.
The Museum of Russian Art's exhibit on Nesting Dolls ends March 29th, making this the last weekend to behold the wonder of the nesting doll.
I shall leave you with the advice to start stretching. There is a group that has declared April bike month and will be organizing several rides - no excuses not to start building those bike legs!

Beer & Wine
First off the beer news, tickets are now on sale for the St. Paul Beer Fest at Midway Stadium. This is in June - it does sell out. Not to be confused with the Autumn Brew Review in Mpls.
In honor of MN beer talk all you novelty seekers take note of Grain Belt's newest offering coming in April:
On Wednesday, April 7th at 8:00am, the first cases of Nordeast will be delivered to Surdyk’s Liquor store in Nordeast Minneapolis and will be available in 6 Packs, 12 Packs, and on draft. It will be available that day at every bar and liquor store in Nordeast Minneapolis only, and released everywhere else the following day.
There are plenty of upcoming beer dinners this Spring, I'll be shifting through them and posting some of note.

According to Mr. Chris Koza "They'll be spinning the record in its entirety, and the band and I will be behind the bar, pouring wine and trying not to make fools of ourselves..." Want to dip your toes in the Classical wading pool? How about 2 tix for $10
The Minnesota Orchestra is hosting their Classical season preview concert in April. It is a great way to sample the various shows that will be in the upcoming season. It is designed to introduce people both to the season and classical music. The preview concerts have a more laid back crowd (and usually a more laid back dress code - but you still won't catch me going to the orchestra in jeans).
If you have been thinking about catching a concert this is a great way to do it. Think of all the great name dropping you'll have at work the next day ... Mozart, Brahms - oh and that crazy Rachmaninoff.

So excited to read about this series at Riverview and Trylon, I know I'll be making several of these movies (The Trouble with Harry is an absolute favorite). Advance tickets are on sale now; I'm sure we can bet on which movies will be hard to get a seat for.
DETAILS: All shows at the Riverview play on Monday nights at 7:30pm. Admission is $8 or $25 for a 5 film pass (up to two uses per screening, passes my not be used for advance tickets).
Finally something good to look forward to while Summer meanders onto the scene.

Hitchcock’s legendary blackly comic shocker vaulted its title into the non-Freudian mainstream and turned comfy shower stalls into places of terror — aided by Bernard Herrmann’s shrieking all-strings score.

What’s wealthy publisher Sean Connery to do when he finds employee Tippi Hedren is a compulsive klepto? Why, marry her, of course. But the real surprises start on the wedding night.
Apr 26 - Lifeboat (1944)
Grand Hotel in miniature, as after a sinking at sea, spoiled journalist Tallulah Bankhead, left-wing seaman John Hodiak, right-wing mogul Henry Hull, et al. — plus mysterious Walter Slezak — find themselves in the title conveyance, with Hitchcock’s camera never moving outside the boat. From an original script by John Steinbeck, with the director’s most challenging cameo.
May 3 - The Birds (1963)
“The Birds is Coming!” Bratty playgirl Tippi Hedren, after exchanging barbs with lawyer Rod Taylor in a Frisco pet shop, follows him to Bodega Bay, with a gift of — ulp! — lovebirds... and then nature turns. Hitchcock’s tour de force of terror from the mundane includes a barrage of optical tricks and a completely music-less track of electronic sounds supervised by Bernard Herrmann.

2010 - the year of the Sold Out show?
Whatever the reason is, shows have been selling out lately (Spoon, Mumford and Sons, The XX). If you are on the fence about picking up tickets, Social Secretary says err on the side of caution and buy the tickets. Maybe things will return to normal this summer.
